„A Temporary Monument“ von Roki Filipović überlagert zwei bestehende Denkmäler in Serbien: das Denkmal für die Kämpfer*innen der Revolution in Valjevo (1960), das den jugoslawischen Nationalhelden Stjepan Filipović darstellt, und das Denkmal für die fiktive Filmfigur Rocky Balboa in Žitište (2009). Beide Figuren sind in derselben Siegespose mit erhobenen Armen dargestellt – doch während Filipović die Idee der kollektiven Solidarität verkörpert, steht Rocky für den amerikanischen Traum vom individuellen Erfolg.

Die Installation verbindet diese visuellen Motive mit einer abgewandelten Zeile aus einem Lied der Turbo-Folk-Sängerin Ceca Ražnatović – „Muško srce nežno poput lastavice“ („Ein Männerherz, zart wie eine Schwalbe“) – und setzt sie in Beziehung zu Fragen des historischen Revisionismus, des Wandels postsozialistischer Gesellschaften sowie der Heteronormativität und unsichtbarer Arbeit. Das Werk entstand in Zusammenarbeit der beiden Künstler und wurde bereits in Ausstellungen in Amsterdam und Belgrad gezeigt.

Teilnehmende Künstler*innen: Nadežda Kirćanski (Zrenjanin/Den Haag) – Bildhauerin und Installations­künstlerin sowie Igor Ripak (Zrenjanin/Wien) – Künstler und Fotograf.

Ausstellung in Zusammenarbeit mit der Initiative Erinnern in Zukunft der Brunnenpassage.

A Temporary Monument, Roki Filipović, layers two existing monuments in Serbia: the Monument to the Fighters of the Revolution in Valjevo (1960), which depicts the Yugoslav national hero Stjepan Filipović, and the monument to the fictional film character Rocky Balboa in Žitište (2009). Both figures are depicted in the same victory pose with their arms raised – yet while Filipović represents the idea of collective solidarity, Rocky embodies the American dream of individual success.

The installation combines these visual motifs with an altered line from a song by turbo-folk singer Ceca Ražnatović – "Muško srce nežno poput lastavice" ("A man's heart, tender as a swallow") – and relates them to questions of historical revisionism, the transformation of post-socialist societies, and heteronormativity and invisible labor. The work was created in collaboration between the two artists and has already been shown in exhibitions in Amsterdam and Belgrade.
