The Watermelon Woman, 1996 | USA | 83 min / OmU / Tue 23.4.2026, 8pm

What tools do filmmakers have to reclaim their own stories? Cheryl Dunye's The Watermelon Woman uses the romantic comedy as a framework to weave together archival research and fiction, humor and queer perspectives - interrogating representations of race and sexuality on screen. A film about histories overlooked, visibility and the right to tell one's own story on one's own terms.

The screening is followed by a Q&A.

An event in cooperation with Gewächshaus – BIPOC Film Network.
