Learning from the Best
Gewächshaus Coworking Circle & Tricky Women / Workshop with Mary Martins Thu 12.3.2026 1-6 pm
In this hands-on analogue workshop the participants will focus on new decolonial approaches to documentary animation. Through the technique of rotoscoping, animating over archival photographs and footage extracted from traditional and personal archives, they will explore and reevaluate the history of conventional archives - and animation as a living archive that confronts the legacies of colonial history.
For creatives from the Global Majority and the CESEE region. Please register under community@gewaechshaus.network until 2nd of March.
Requirements: Participants can bring with them a short archival video from either the traditional or personal archive. Footage will also be provided for those who are unable to retrieve any.
Mary Martins is a British Nigerian independent animation filmmaker and researcher from London.
