Contact Improvisation
Workshop with Bita Bell – BIPOC only / So 4.5.2025, 16-18 Uhr

Facilitated by Bita Bell, this Contact Improvisation workshop and jam, offering a space for movement, connection, and healing through safe touch. Rooted in anti-racist practices, this workshop engages with CI as a form of resistance and rejuvenation for bodies moving through a white-centered world. Drawing from the teachings of BIPOC dancers and CI practitioners—Mayfield Brooks, Bebe Miller, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Andrew Suseno, and Makisig Akin—as well as scholars like Royona Mitra, this practice reclaims dance and touch as sites of agency and liberation. Moving through CI scores, participants will explore their connections with themselves and each other through collective care and weight-sharing. The workshop concludes with a jam session, fostering restoration and transformation.
This workshop is for BIPOC only. No prior knowledge required. The workshop takes place in English, but not speaking English is no barrier for participation.
